An airport rail yard, a new runway and Helene in Charlotte

Serving Mecklenburg County

Charlotte Douglas International drives much of the city’s diesel demand. Airports Council International ranked CLT the seventh busiest airport in the world for takeoffs and landings.

The airport is also a rail yard. Norfolk Southern’s Charlotte Regional Intermodal Facility sits on 200 acres between two runways. It was designed to handle 200,000 lifts a year. Every lift means a drayage tractor, a container handler or a yard truck burning diesel. See our airport and logistics pages.

Construction is still going on at the airfield. CLT broke ground in June 2023 on a fourth parallel runway. Commissioning is set for fall 2027. Until then, earthmovers, paving trains and light plants run on dyed diesel inside an active airport.

Helene and the lakes

Helene showed that Charlotte’s storm risk is inland flooding, not just wind. On September 26, 2024, the city ordered a mandatory evacuation along Mountain Island Lake. Lake Norman’s overflow drove the lake past its 100-foot maximum. In Mecklenburg County, 89 homes flooded. Duke Energy outages across the Carolinas were heavily concentrated in the Charlotte area. Downed trees blocked roads.

Winter is milder but not harmless. In January 2025, less than half an inch of snow and ice cancelled 733 flights at CLT in a single day.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Charlotte site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.

Charlotte fuel delivery questions, answered

Do you fuel trucking and intermodal operations around Charlotte Douglas?
Yes. We fuel drayage tractors, yard trucks and container-handling equipment on site, and we can drop DEF on the same visit. Airport-area and rail yards have their own access rules, so give dispatch your gate, contact and any badge or escort requirements when you order.
Can you deliver off-road diesel to large site-work and runway projects?
Yes. We deliver dyed diesel to earthmoving equipment, pavers, light towers and site tanks, and we can set up rental tanks for long jobs. Tell dispatch where equipment is staged and when it's parked, and we'll fuel it in place.
How should Charlotte facilities prepare generators for storm season?
Top off standby tanks, get on an emergency fuel list and have stored fuel tested or polished before a tropical system arrives. When Helene hit in September 2024, more than a million Duke Energy customers across the Carolinas lost power, with outages heavily concentrated in the Charlotte area, and downed trees blocked roads.
Do you deliver fuel 24/7 in Charlotte?
Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.
What fuels can you deliver in Charlotte?
Clear on-road diesel (ULSD #2), red-dyed off-road diesel, gasoline, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and R99 renewable diesel. Most customers combine two or more on the same delivery.
Do you deliver diesel to generators in Charlotte?
Yes. Dyed diesel for standby and prime generators, on a refill schedule or as an emergency run during an outage. Generator fueling →
Do you offer mobile fleet fueling in Charlotte?
Yes. We wet-hose trucks and equipment in your yard, usually overnight, and log every gallon by unit. Mobile fleet fueling →
Can you deliver bulk diesel to our tanks in Charlotte?
Yes. Anything from 20 gallons to a 7,500-gallon transport load, into above-ground, underground or portable tanks. Bulk delivery →
How much fuel can you deliver at once?
Tank wagon deliveries run from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop, and full transport loads to 7,500 gallons or more for large bulk tanks. Tell us your tank size and usage and we’ll recommend the right format.
How much is diesel tax in North Carolina?
On-road (clear) diesel in North Carolina carries $0.6608 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.0053 per gallon, as of October 5, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →
Do you offer emergency fuel delivery in Charlotte?
Yes. If a generator is running low or a site is about to run dry, call 800-720-4546 and a dispatcher will confirm what we can get to you and when.
Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
Yes. Smaller delivery trucks reach tight urban sites, parking structures and jobsites where a full-size tanker can’t fit.
What payment options do you accept?
Credit cards, ACH and checks. Credit terms are available for qualifying commercial accounts. Ask your dispatcher for details.
