Data centers, Rickenbacker and an I-70 rebuild in Columbus

Serving Franklin County

Central Ohio’s data center boom shows up on the utility’s books. As of February 2026, AEP Ohio had 17,861 MW of contracted data center projects. Every one of those campuses needs standby generators and fuel stored on site. Every one is a construction project first.

The grid risk is real. In June 2022, AEP Ohio cut power to nearly 170,000 Columbus-area customers to keep stressed lines from failing. Sites with empty generator tanks simply went dark. See our data center page.

Rickenbacker and the Downtown Ramp Up

South of downtown, the Rickenbacker area combines a cargo airport, Norfolk Southern’s Rickenbacker Intermodal Terminal and the warehouses around them. Automated dispatch keeps average truck dwell time at the terminal under 20 minutes. That pace depends on trucks that don’t detour for fuel.

Downtown, ODOT’s $1.4 billion Downtown Ramp Up is rebuilding the I-70/I-71 corridor. The work moves bridge by bridge: Front Street, then South High Street, then 3rd and 4th Streets. For contractors, that means years of work from tight downtown staging areas, where equipment has to be fueled in place.

Winter brings the opposite risk. On December 23, 2022, an arctic front dropped Ohio below zero. Diesel that hasn’t been winterized gels in that cold, and DEF freezes.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Columbus site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.

Columbus fuel delivery questions, answered

Do you fuel data center generators in central Ohio?
Yes. We run scheduled keep-full programs for standby generators, deliver fuel for load-bank and monthly tests, and handle emergency refueling when the grid goes down. For new campuses still under construction, we can also fuel the temporary power and equipment on site.
Can you fuel distribution center fleets at Rickenbacker?
Yes. Mobile fleet fueling (wet-hosing) fuels parked tractors, yard trucks and reefers on site between shifts, so drivers don't detour to a truck stop. We can drop DEF on the same visit.
When should Columbus fleets switch to winter diesel?
Before the first arctic front, not after it. Right before Christmas 2022, an arctic front dropped Ohio below zero with wind chills near −35°F. Order winterized fuel or treated fuel for tanks and equipment that sit outside, and keep tanks full to limit condensation.
Do you deliver fuel 24/7 in Columbus?
Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.
What fuels can you deliver in Columbus?
Clear on-road diesel (ULSD #2), red-dyed off-road diesel, gasoline, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and R99 renewable diesel. Most customers combine two or more on the same delivery.
Do you deliver diesel to generators in Columbus?
Yes. Dyed diesel for standby and prime generators, on a refill schedule or as an emergency run during an outage. Generator fueling →
Do you offer mobile fleet fueling in Columbus?
Yes. We wet-hose trucks and equipment in your yard, usually overnight, and log every gallon by unit. Mobile fleet fueling →
Can you deliver bulk diesel to our tanks in Columbus?
Yes. Anything from 20 gallons to a 7,500-gallon transport load, into above-ground, underground or portable tanks. Bulk delivery →
How much fuel can you deliver at once?
Tank wagon deliveries run from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop, and full transport loads to 7,500 gallons or more for large bulk tanks. Tell us your tank size and usage and we’ll recommend the right format.
How much is diesel tax in Ohio?
On-road (clear) diesel in Ohio carries $0.7328 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.0198 per gallon, as of October 5, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →
Do you offer emergency fuel delivery in Columbus?
Yes. If a generator is running low or a site is about to run dry, call 800-720-4546 and a dispatcher will confirm what we can get to you and when.
Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
Yes. Smaller delivery trucks reach tight urban sites, parking structures and jobsites where a full-size tanker can’t fit.
What payment options do you accept?
Credit cards, ACH and checks. Credit terms are available for qualifying commercial accounts. Ask your dispatcher for details.
