Navy contracts, border freight and shutoffs in San Diego

Serving San Diego County

San Diego’s economy runs on defense. The 2025 Military Economic Impact Report puts defense at 22.2% of the regional economy. General Dynamics NASSCO, headquartered in San Diego, is the only new-construction shipyard on the West Coast. Shipyards and the contractors around them run cranes, forklifts, welders, compressors and generators that need fuel delivered where they work.

At the border, Otay Mesa is California’s busiest commercial truck crossing. It’s reached from State Route 905. More than 1,015,000 trucks crossed there in fiscal 2021. The warehouses, cross-dock yards and drayage fleets around it burn diesel day and night. Every hour a tractor spends at a station is an hour it isn’t in the border queue.

Santa Ana winds and power shutoffs

San Diego’s biggest fuel risk isn’t cold or hurricanes. It’s wildfire weather. When Santa Ana winds blow, SDG&E cuts power to lines in high-risk areas through Public Safety Power Shutoffs. In January 2025 the utility warned more than 82,000 customers of possible shutoffs. A PSPS comes with some notice, which is the point. Backcountry businesses can top off generator tanks before the shutoff instead of trying to buy fuel during one.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your San Diego site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.

San Diego fuel delivery questions, answered

Do you fuel trucks and yard equipment in Otay Mesa?
Yes. We wet-hose tractors, yard trucks and reefer units where they park, so drivers working the border crossing don't lose a turn waiting at a station. Give dispatch the yard address and equipment count and we'll set a schedule.
Can you keep generators fueled during a Public Safety Power Shutoff?
Yes. We deliver diesel for standby generators and can top off tanks when SDG&E announces a possible PSPS. Dispatch runs 24/7/365, and the best protection is a full tank before the red flag warning, not after.
Do you work with defense contractors and marine terminal operators?
Yes. We deliver clear and dyed diesel, DEF and gasoline to industrial, maritime and contractor sites around San Diego Bay. Tell us about any site access or badging requirements when you order.
Can you deliver R99 renewable diesel in San Diego?
Yes. We deliver R99 as a drop-in replacement for petroleum diesel. R99 isn't at every terminal; where it can't be pulled locally it ships by rail or barge, so ask about lead time.
Do you deliver fuel 24/7 in San Diego?
Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.
What fuels can you deliver in San Diego?
Clear on-road diesel (ULSD #2), red-dyed off-road diesel, gasoline, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and R99 renewable diesel. Most customers combine two or more on the same delivery.
Do you deliver diesel to generators in San Diego?
Yes. Dyed diesel for standby and prime generators, on a refill schedule or as an emergency run during an outage. Generator fueling →
Do you offer mobile fleet fueling in San Diego?
Yes. We wet-hose trucks and equipment in your yard, usually overnight, and log every gallon by unit. Mobile fleet fueling →
Can you deliver bulk diesel to our tanks in San Diego?
Yes. Anything from 20 gallons to a 7,500-gallon transport load, into above-ground, underground or portable tanks. Bulk delivery →
How much fuel can you deliver at once?
Tank wagon deliveries run from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop, and full transport loads to 7,500 gallons or more for large bulk tanks. Tell us your tank size and usage and we’ll recommend the right format.
How much is diesel tax in California?
On-road (clear) diesel in California carries $0.7330 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.0080 per gallon, as of October 5, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →
Do you offer emergency fuel delivery in San Diego?
Yes. If a generator is running low or a site is about to run dry, call 800-720-4546 and a dispatcher will confirm what we can get to you and when.
Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
Yes. Smaller delivery trucks reach tight urban sites, parking structures and jobsites where a full-size tanker can’t fit.
What payment options do you accept?
Credit cards, ACH and checks. Credit terms are available for qualifying commercial accounts. Ask your dispatcher for details.
