Data center generators, BART and record heat in San Jose

Serving Santa Clara County

San José had about 25 data centers in mid-2025, and the city is courting more. In July 2025 the city and PG&E announced a deal to speed power to large data center and industrial projects. Every one of those buildings needs backup power. Equinix’s Great Oaks South campus in South San José was permitted with 36 diesel generators. Those sets run only during PG&E failures and routine testing. That means fuel that sits for months, then burns fast.

Downtown, VTA’s BART Silicon Valley Phase II is extending BART six miles through downtown San José to Santa Clara. VTA lists construction running to 2036. A tunnel job under a working downtown means years of excavation equipment, generators and staging yards. There’s very little room for fuel trucks to maneuver, so delivery timing matters.

Record heat and the grid

San José’s weather risks are heat and floods, not freezes. On September 6, 2022, the city hit 109°F, its all-time record. A heat wave like that is exactly when cooling plants work hardest. It’s also when a generator start has to go right the first time.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your San Jose site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.

San Jose fuel delivery questions, answered

Do you fuel data center backup generators in San Jose?
Yes. We run scheduled keep-full programs for standby generators and handle emergency refueling during utility outages. For multi-generator yards like the large campuses in North and South San José, dispatch plans the drop around your fill points and test schedule.
Can you deliver R99 renewable diesel to San Jose generators?
Yes. R99 meets the same ASTM D975 spec as petroleum diesel and goes into existing generators and tanks with no modifications. It also resists degradation in storage, which suits standby tanks that sit for months. Ask dispatch about availability for your volume and schedule.
Do you deliver dyed diesel to BART Silicon Valley Phase II and other downtown construction?
Yes. We deliver off-road diesel to equipment, generators and site tanks on construction jobs. Downtown sites have tight access, so tell dispatch the gate, the staging area and any delivery-time windows when you order.
Do you deliver fuel 24/7 in San Jose?
Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.
What fuels can you deliver in San Jose?
Clear on-road diesel (ULSD #2), red-dyed off-road diesel, gasoline, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and R99 renewable diesel. Most customers combine two or more on the same delivery.

How much fuel can you deliver at once?
Tank wagon deliveries run from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop, and full transport loads to 7,500 gallons or more for large bulk tanks. Tell us your tank size and usage and we’ll recommend the right format.
How much is diesel tax in California?
On-road (clear) diesel in California carries $0.7330 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.0080 per gallon, as of October 5, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →

Yes. If a generator is running low or a site is about to run dry, call 800-720-4546 and a dispatcher will confirm what we can get to you and when.
Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
Yes. Smaller delivery trucks reach tight urban sites, parking structures and jobsites where a full-size tanker can’t fit.
What payment options do you accept?
Credit cards, ACH and checks. Credit terms are available for qualifying commercial accounts. Ask your dispatcher for details.
